CUB Belly Mower Belt

My 1948 Cub will not keep the belt on the woods belly mower under it. Keeps throwing it off. Tried everything. Put a Napa 140 belt on it, same as before. It seems to twist and then come off. Please Help.

If it's throwing off new belts, I would think either something is out of line or the belt guides need adjusted. rw

i gotta look around, i think i have a copy of the belt adjustment set up for the woods 59 belly mower. i have a 59 under my cub and also one on by b. i have not had any luck with belts from napa or berry bearing on the woods mowers, barely lasted a year. i got my last belts from case-ih, and they have been running for over 5 years now.

If you don't have a manual for the Woods mower that tells how to install and adjust the belts and pulleys, go to the Woods website. All the mower manuals are on line and you can download the one for the Cub. If a new belt is jumping off, something is not set correctly.

Most belts have Kevlar or similar bands in them that keep them from streching. If you"ve hit anything with the mower heavy enough to strain the belt you may have broken those bands. If so, it won"t matter how much you tighten, the give in the belt will allow it to strech enough to slip the pulley.

My wife will forget where the stumps are every once in a while and whack one of the little buggers with the International mower on our Cub. I"ll put the belt on and it will go maybe 15 minutes and throw the belt, after that it won"t run 5 minutes before the belt"s off.

Put on a new belt and it will run just fine - at least until we try to mow down another stump.

found it, here is the adjustments for the belt.

I assume the belt on yours is routed the same as on my Woods L306. The belt requires a 1/2 twist on the left side, and 3/4 twist on the right side. (as viewed from the driver seat) If the left and right side twists are not correct, that belt absolutely WILL NOT stay on.
