584 PTO WON'T ENGAGE

Help, I need to drill some holes and my pto won't engage, the lever just won't move. I checked the linkage and it doesn't seem to be the problem. It appears that there is a valve attached to the linkage ( with a fork ) that is not moving? The pto worked fine last fall. I have steering/etc. Any ideas?

Hi Steve, usually the problem is the valve stem is stuck in the MCV valve or the actuating mechanism is siezed. Use your favorite penetrating oil and spray all the moving parts.
If it is a stuck valve stem there is a rubber boot that can be carefully pried up and penetrating oil sprayed into the top of the valve. The valve stem goes thru a guide that can become siezed.

Jim, I remember seeing the rubber boot, so I'll give it all a good oil job in the morning. My buddy insist that the linkage is binding but I don't think that's the problem. I really appreciate your response.
Thank you, Steve
