I just scored a 1950 Farmall "M" today. It has been "barned" it's whole life and shows 3000 hrs on the orig hour meter!!! This thing is in incredible original condition and totally complete without any mod's. It is in need of a gentle cleaning and I would like to figure out how to clean and polish (or restore the original lustre) to it without damaging the 60 year old paint. I have built two "Trailer Queens" in the past but would like to keep this one "all original" Due to it's unbelievable condition.
Anyone have any idea's on how to make it shine but not too much as to degrade the originalty of the tractor?

I did not know that M's had hour meters as org. equipment. I thought hour meters were first on the super M's 1952 0r later. Armand

Hi Guys. The hour meter was an option just like the PTO or belt drive on the Farmalls- M's and MV's have part number 356735 R91 (6 volt) plus MD's and MDV's have part number 356740 R91 (12 volt) both only if equipped with lighting and/or electric starting. HTH ...Randy

A mild rubbing compound (low abrasive, do not use a buffer) followed by wax. Your paint is old and thin, and likely has no primer under it. So, go easy and try it on a small area first. You won't get the original shine back, but it will be better.

there is a Turtle wax product called polishing compound that is very good at restoring old oxidized paint. It is a white very light rubbing type product. Used it for years to restore boats to color and on older metal products. Henry

That's what I had in mind. Turtle Wax rubbing compound is also a possibility, but it has more abrasives.
