farmall spark

Hello folks, I have a 1953 farmall super C that will turn over real well but not throw a spark, back before it stopped running the ignition coil would get pretty dang hot if I left the battery hooked up for any length of time. I am assuming that buying a new one is needed but I wanted to check here first and see what you guys say and get the benefit of your experience before I spend my money.
Thanks - Donald

Most likely a new coil (points might also be needed. I assume you were running it while the coil was getting hot. It is not a good idea to leave the ign. on while not running, that will overheat the coil because it is designed to be "On" about 1/2 the time or less. Dwell as a percentage of rotation per cylinder.
