Add on 3 points?

I have an 49 H with the dual hydraulics and was thinking of adding an aftermarket 3 point kit. Has anybody done this? Do they work decent? Any suggestions on brand or source for them? Northern MInnesota. Thank You!

What do you mean by "the dual hydraulics?"

Are you counting the number of ports on the sides of the tractor below the gas tank?

An H's factory hydraulic system only has a single, one-way hydraulic control. The "dual" ports are there for convenience. They are all controlled by one lever.

Now, if you have an add-on dual hydraulic control, that's a different story. You will likely want to add one anyway if you don't already have one. Two-way hydraulics are much more convenient, and having dual controls gives you the ability to run the 3pt and another implement without having to fiddle with hoses.

Saginaw County Tractor has the best 3pt conversion. I don't know if they do local dealerships, but they do ship their hitches. wwwDOTsaginawcountytractorDOTcom. All other hitches pale in comparison.

Saginaw is the only way to go. They are cheaper, and they are the best. Heavy duty and dual cylinders. I put one on my "new" 1945 M last year, and it is terrific. Also, the guy who makes them is a real help on the phone if you have questions. He actually answers in person.

Another plug for Saginaw I have one that is over 30 tears old and it was used for actual farming for several years, still in excellent working condition.

It really depends on what you will use the 3pt for. My experience with them is the weak point is usually the upper most point of contact with the tractor. I’m only visiting from the Ford board, and don’t know IH tractors well (but have an IH combine).
I had a Holden or Holdem bolt on 3pt on a 100+hp Ford. It was well build, with a heavy frame, and 2 x cylinders, but it attached at the top with 2 x heavy angle iron brackets that bolted on the axle trumpet flanges. This eventually cracked the trumpet flange on the bolt holes where it bolted on so I took it off and no longer use it.

Get yourself a Saginaw. I have two - one I bought new for the M, the other I found in like new condition for the H. They are great. You will not regret the little bit extra $ for getting the best.....

The H and M have clamps that go around the axle housing, that's what the aftermarket 3 point and older IH mounted equipment bolt to. That will work for every thing but a 3 point plow--which might not be a good idea anyway. As long as those clamps are kept tight there is little chance of breakage of the housing. The semi mount plows for the H/M, etc do most of the pulling from underneath the tractor, as does the fast hitch on later models, thus I probably would not try a plow. Blades, bush hogs, tandem disks, etc are probably ok.
