Mag-v- distributor

I read this today and for the life of me I do not understand this:

"The firing order if you have a mag is 1-4-3-2 .If you have the half-speed distributor it is 1-3-4-2"

Looking at the cap on a distributor, I know that fire comes out of the holes sequentially. Does a magneto not fire the holes sequentially?????? That is, looking at a cap, does it hit, for example, hole one, skip a hole and fire on another one etc.

tw Magman where are you.

My manual has the firing order for the IH tractors
is 1-3-4-2 for the mag and distributor. Some may turn CCW, but still use the same firing order. Hal

I'll bet this guy's tractor doesn't run real well. In any case, the firing order is dictated by the camshaft. You simply set the distributor up to match it.

Just goes to show that you shouldn't believe everything you read... Except this... Or should you?

All Of that series are 1342. All turn at 1/2 engine speed at the drive flange. So all get treated the same for wire location. JimN

No the firing order is determined by the crankshaft throws. Check a 2 cylinder Deere or a Harley, fires 1,2, coast with mag firing on an exhaust stroke in between. Look at a distributor on a Wisconsin, uneven lobes, mag firing order is not the same as engine order because of a 540* offset in crank throws.

(quoted from post at 04:24:42 04/15/09) A lot of the Allis Chalmer tractors used the 1-4-3-2 firing order. Hal
I thought they were 1-2-4-3 (essentially the reverse of the IH sequence).
