more horsepower and rpms for a farmall M

does anyone have any ideas on how to get more power and more rpms out of a M farmall engine? any suggestion will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Jeremy, many people view the "brand specific" forums for "normal" tractors. There"s some pullers in every forum, but pop on over to the pulling pages and You"ll probably get 10 replies.

Good luck.

Keep the rpms down if it is a stock cam ! On a dyno a stock cam runs out of lift around 1900 rpm, meaning the torque #s fall off fast.

If you need more get a stiffer governor spring and be prepared to turn the rpm back down to normal levels. A stiffer spring will help hold the governor back , so you will notice a differance. But operate it in the 1800 rpm range.

The spring must be the exact same length "no longer". You will find one at your local hardware store or Tractor supply. Take yours with you and compare "bigger diameter coil ".

They come in a yellow and white bag and there is "2" in each package.

A question, what are you going to do with the extra power? I hardly ever remeber running out of power before loosing traction. Now if you were going to run duals, that may be a different matter.

Best bang for the buck after you have the bigger pistons, the LP gas head, the 450 manifold, and the 806 carburetor is to get a custom grind cam that changes the firing order. Then get the electronic ignition kit. You should be between 90 and 100 hp at that point. After that, more HP gets expensive.
