Thought someone nearby was burnning trash while mowing with a 140. When I looked around I saw fire and smoke comming from under the hood and knew immediately the damned wrens had built a nest on my exhaust manifold again. The fan was fanning the flames. I shut it down, jumped off, and let it smolder out. Took about 5 min and then I finished mowing.

This is not the first time, and I have learned to always check and remove their nests before cranking. This time I forgot. Pretty exciting seeing a fire burn under the gas tank and beside the fuel lines and carb. Hope I can remember to check next time.

same crap happened to me 2 weeks ago, shut it off and let it burn out. It sure was scary though. Need to always check for that kinda stuff every spring!

Happened to me on a riding lawm mower. I kept smelling smoke. Luckily the mower ran out of gas and when it quit smoke came out of the top engine cowling. Pushed it away from the shop and removed the cowling and found a huge mouse nest on fire.
Now every fall I put one or two Bounce dryer sheets in all my tractors, mowers and pickup engine compartments and no more mouse problems.

Happened to me last Spring on my SA. No harm done, however. Nest was not yet finished and, thus, fire was not too big.
