12V Gen on H

Will a 12Gen work with a 6V VR. I can nt get the 12 Gen I put on my H to work with the old VR. If I grd the F the Gen works fine but charges to much I need too reduce it

old 6 volt regulator on 12 volt generator? not a good thing to do. What kind of generator are you using? Small Ford, VW, or something else? Old mechanical regulators were a break circuit with points , controled output more on amperage than voltage- so old regulator still breaking same amount of time but the double voltage is letting more wattage to battery for about same amount of amperage= overcharged battery. Try to match regulator to generator voltage or see if can adjust old one- many older designs were servicable and adjustable. RN

Not in any way well. Use a 12v reg, and 12v battery. All else is a short trip to smoke. JimN

It is a 12V Battery. The Gen is a Delco Remy 12V. The tractor has Mag ign and no lights and it came with a new 12V battery so I thought I would install 12V charging system. I will have to try and obtain the correct VR for it. I know I could use a 12V alt but this looks more orginal and I already had the Gen.
