More Belly Pump Questions

Gents,
Put some SAE in 30 in my belly pump. I actuated the lever and vwalla'....the engine bogged down. So I'm guessing this means that the pump is at least working, somewhat, no pressure check yet.

Now for the bad news. When I actuated the lever, the engine bogged, then oil began dripping from the Belly pump. Not sure exactly where it was coming from. It was not spraying, but dripping.....in an almost steady stream. However, release the lever, the leak stops. And I did confirm that it is not leaking from the fittings, its definately leaking from up inside the pump, then running down. Now, I looked at the exploded view of the belly pump and it shows only one gasket. That gasket is between the resevoir and the pump portion of the unit.

So now for the question. Since the pump is leaking, does that mean I should give up and go pump shopping....or, is there still hope. If there is still hope, should I take it out and take it apart in search for the leak? Or is taking it apart, a "not so good" idea that would risk ruining the whole thing? Believe it or not, I am mechanically inclined, however, certain things I've learned not to mess with....like transmissions...(they are an art form).......Is this pump gonna be the same way?

Thanks for all your previous answers and thanks for reading this!

Belly pumps are not very complicated. I suspect the casting that the outlet pipes are fastened into may be cracked, one of the pipes may be cracked, or the gasket is damaged.
Try removing each pipe & inspect them. If you have to remove the pump, the pipes must be removed anyhow.

They unscrew, The four possile issues are cracked resrevoir, Leak at the side cover gasket, Cracked fitting on a pipe fitting, or a input shaft seal. These are heavy units, a floor jack, and an extra pair of hands are good thinking. You might be able to see the leak from under the tractor, by removing the coupling cover, and looking up into the case. The system is not difficult, or complex. There are no trickie components. Could it be that the pipe fitting going into the pump is loose? Maybe try a medium sized pipe wrench and try tightening them a bit. Worth a try.

Seal on pump shaft. drop the pump assembly, and remove from housing. insert a flat bar in oil inlet to lock gear, then unscrew coupler Seal is behind it.

It is highly unlikely to be the gasket. The gasket only seals the pump assembly to the reservoir. There is no place where the gasket is subjected to pressure so it should leak the same whether or not the pump is under pressure.

If it leaks from the center it is most likely the seal. If it comes down from the side it is most likely a cracked pipe where it threads into the pump assembly.
