My power steering is not working. It works off the hydrolic system. Front loader and rear lift work as well as PTO.

I have checked the fluid level and it is OK, I think I need to changer the filter?

Any suggestions?

The hitch pump has nothing to do with the power steering . That works off the MCV pump . So here is what to do First off make sure that you are indeed full on the hyd. oil or above the mark . Change the filter install a new filter and gskt. First try and run the tractor at around 1800-2000 RPM and turn the steering wheel to the left and keep turning it , if it does not pick up prime in a couple min. then you can look on the back side of the MCV valve housing and on the back side of it you will see a plug that takes a 5/8ths wrench it will be the small one towards the bottom Make sure that the tractor engine is shut down , Remove that plug Get back up on the tractor and start it up BUT BGE READY TO SHUT IT DOWN FAST as that little plug can pump out a lot of oil real fast when it does pick up prime . There could be several things that have caused this problem . (1) your MCV pump is getting weak (2) the O/Ring between the speed transmission is old and hard and lost it's sealing (3) you could have a stuck valve in the MCV (4) the sump check plug is leaking . (5) you could have a crack in the suction tube and be sucking air .Now if when you pull the dip stick and it say's that you are down JUST A GALLON IT LYES you may be down 5 gallon. If you run a loader on that tractor when the loader is up your level in the transmission is way down so it maybe in your best interest to over fill by five gallon.

I guess you can tell I am a City person who has a ranch I go to on weekends, for 25 years. I have had this tractor for 6 years, only use it on weekends to put out hay/cut the grass on 100 acres. I will try plan A first which is replace the filter. I replaced it when I got the tractor six years ago but have only put approx 125 hours in the six years.

Is there a specific grade of hydrolic fluid i should use? I usually buy it at Sam's club by the five gallon bucket.

Oh well then that explains it all . I'll bet the hyd. oil looks like MILK . And more then likely it has been COLD there . You have water in the system as that tractor will condensate bad and water builds up inside the tractor . SOOOoooo ya just might as well plan on draining the system and replacing the oil . If you do not have and owners manual then it will be money well spent and set down and read it cover to cover . Also buy and IT manual for it . Since you do not run the tractor enough to really cook out the moisture you will always have problems with any tractor . It would be in your best intrest to find a good trust worthy mechanic to come out a couple times a years and service it . The hyd. filter will do it's job on catchen water But it will require changing a lot more often then a tractor that is worked hard. This also apply's to engine oil changes and fuel filter changes. I am sure that you will find ICe in the filter for the hyd's .

I am having similar problems with my 806 Diesel. I have changed fluid and filter with no improvement. I have other symptoms besides the steering. The oil pressure light flashes and the torque amplifier wont stay engaged in HI or LO range when driving the tractor. I believe the steering system as well as the torque amplifier both receive hydraulic pressure from the MCV, which houses my pump. I noticed the problem this winter when it got cold out. But no improvement since its warmed up out. Now Planning on removing valves from MCV one by one before pulling MCV and getting pump tested. Is there anything else I should be checking first?
