ok today i remove teh long side cover on the side of the tranimisson and i found the big rigth under the cover look likeit had been slipping over another gear it was the big gear in the back right under the cover and the best i coudl tell the rest look good do you all think that thac coudl be my problems with it nocking backing up thanks som uch if you all think that is it wat gear is that is it the revers idealer geart or what thanks so much for any help

Did you try prying on that gear to see how much the pinion shaft moves? In out or up and down. I still think that you might have a pinion bearing out.

I hope that you were prying on the gear and shaft towards the inside and not the one thats exactly right behind the cover. That one would be the reverse countershaft. The other thing you could do is jack up one wheel, watch inside while rolling the wheel, and see if you can get it to make that noise.

The only way to really tell is to look for teeth in the trct rear frame and/or pull the cover plate to the range trans. You will need to jack the cab up to actually get it out. I know its a bear because I just finished one. I'm not sure you can get a prybar to the pinion shaft thru the left side cover plate. The counter shaft is right in the way.

The range transmission cover comes up without moving the cab. Remove the floor mat, access cover, seat assembly, and transmission shift linkage. That will give you room to lift the cover straight up.
