Specific M muffler

My LP gas delivery man is looking for a specific Farmall M muffler. The top outlet pipe is smaller than the bottom intlet pipe. Stanley is not it, nor the one they sell new at Case IH.
He wants it to sound just right he says.........

Have him try Mark's Tractors, 2636 County Road 2300E, Gillford, IL 61847 217-694-4735. They advertise "Finally The Original Look And Sound!"
I've used their mufflers and am happy with them. Have him give Mark a call and tell him his specific needs.

To the best of my knowledge, the m muffler was a large outlet size (almost the inlet size) and Hs had smaller outlet. Look to old ads for comparison. JimN

Jim: That is the way I remember it also - the M has the same size inlet and outlet, whereas the H muffler has the smaller outlet.

[b:74071818d5]Ditto,
I use ONLY mufflers from Mark's Parts. The best sound and quality. If you look at pics on the Wisconsin Hist. site many of the M's and W6's show what looks like a smaller outlet. Not as small as the H or Super H muffler. No one (to my knowledge) makes that muffler. Several muffler manufacturers were used by IH in the 1940's and 1950's. I have been very happy with the one's from Mark's.

I'll second the vote for Mark if that's what you're looking for.

And this is a good time of year to catch him, as he does farm and can be hard to get in touch with when there's field work to be done. During those times, he WILL get back to you but it sometimes takes a few days. He's got a nice little business going and service is first-rate.

OEM tractor parts is also advertising "correct" H and M mufflers now.

I purchased two of their H mufflers, and we've installed one on Dad's Super H already. LOUD. WOW does she bark now. Also, the paint started bubbling up on the muffler after the engine had a few minutes to warm up. They are Stanley muffers that OEM presumably cuts the top off and replaces with the "correct" size outlet.

If you wait for an OEM 20% off sale, which they seem to be having pretty frequently right now, you can get them for $30 less than from Mark's.

got some measurments of one he likes, 2 1/2 inlet, barrell is 5 1/2 wide, 10 1/4 tall to seam to seam, 12 inch overall barrell height, 1 3/4 oulet with a 12 7/8 tall pipe off the barrel, marked 61218 and 350600R95, Case changes it to 403551R1 and that is not the old style.
Thanks for all your great help !!!

[b:0bddd7e484]I picked up an OEM muffler for my Super C. Was disappointed that it was a Stanley that was cut off. They should advertise that. I like OEM stuff but was not happy with the muffler. Ordered the correct one from Mark's and was very pleased with it.

I just called Mark in Ill. he has the very muffler that I am looking for the my LP delivery man. " THANK YOU ALL ON THE IH BOARD !!!!
I ordered 3 for $79.00 each by the way.
BTW....On my opinion of a Stanley muffler, they only look like a muffler, How many Stanley's rust up in a hand print from the oil from your hand at start up, and the seams leak , and their decals don't come off or leave a mark. Been there and done that.

Actually the later (about 1947 up) straight M's came with a muffler that had an outlet pipe somewhat smaller than the inlet pipe. They were proportionately smaller than the H type in every dimension except for the inlet pipe. The outlet pipe wasn't nearly as small as the H's but it was noticeably smaller than the inlet. The mufflers with the large outlet pipes started coming out on the new Super M's and since then all the replacement mufflers for M's came that way too as I recall. The '48 W-6 we got in 1950 still had it's original muffler and it was one of the smaller outlet pipe type. I remember having to saw about 4 inches of it off to get it into the garage with the "sawed off muffler '50 H. If anyone has one of the old H, M, and MD sales brochures from about 1950, they show some great pictures of M types with this small outlet muffler along with some pictures of the early model H and M tractors with the older stubby outlet pipe mufflers. I remember a lot of the older styled Farmalls "back when" with the stubby mufflers, that's what my uncle's '41 H had when I first started driving it in 1943..
