Farmall H Knock

Just started up our H for the first time after restoration/rebuild and after 5 or so minutes it developed a knock/clunk around the bell housing/clutch area. It is only intermitant (mostly when you slow the motor down. It got new thrust and spigot bearing's. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure you got the flywheel bolts tight??

Does the knock go away or change when you depress the clutch pedal?

I would pull the belly pump (or maybe it is still out) and start by checking the reconstruction of the clutch shaft joint. if either not tight, or reassembled incorrectly it makes that noise. If it looks good (and is) I would then use a pry bar on the perimeter of the Flywheel to see if it is loose Tweek both axially and radially as well as forward and back on a ring gear tooth in the direction of rotation. If it still knocks, I would pull the clutch PP and retighten the Flywheel. Best of luck. JimN

The knock stays there when you push the clutch pedal in.

Put it high gear, hold the clutch and brakes down and start it if it still knocks, it is not the coupling. Try the other suggestions. JimN

Pulled the cover off today and yes the flywheel is very loose. Thanks for all the help.
