Farmall 450 govenor gasket

I can't seem to find a gasket part number for the gasket circled in white. I have not taken this aprt from my tractor, found this picture on the net... I was wondering if I even need a gasket anymore, or can I just use plain old RTV gasket maker instead?

Also, when removing #1 from #3 do I just remove the 2 bolts holding them together, or do I need to do something with #2 first?

Go to the Case IH website and do a search for parts, type in 450-SERIES FARMALL, then look under engine/governor, you should find the gasket part number there.

There will be some linkage that will need to be disconnected at the top of #1 before you can remove it.

Sometimes the correct gasket is required to provide for proper clearances inside of the assembly. In this particular situation however, I doubt if that rule would apply. Use the RTV silicon. Just be careful that very little excess gets squeezed out inside, because it could break away and eventually plug up some oil passages.
