i have a 1456 with the hyd clutch assist. i need to adjust the clutch because i just replaced it. is it normal for the assist to push the rod forward when starting the tractor? i just cant seem to get it adjusted properly. either the clutch slips cause the throw out bearing is against or i cant get it in to gear when adjusted the other way. can anyone explain to me how to adjust this clutch? and if its normal for the assist to push forward when the tractor is running? it seems to make adjusting impossible. thanks joe

The booster should not move upon starting engine. Even if adjusted wrong it would only move a little. Back adjustments off on both ends until linkage is free , start engine. If any movement the valve in booster is stuck or assembled incorectly. Proper adjustment starts at pedal side. Take up slack so linkage is just touching activating piston, this should give you about maybe half inch pedal movement of valve before output end starts to move. Then adjust other end to get about one eight inch clearance on release bearing to fingers. Clear as mud, right, could show you in a minute but not good at describing procedure.

i will try that. thanks. i will say that when i start the tractor that the rod between the booster and the clutch arm moves forward a half inch right away. do i need to replace or rebuild the booster? thanks joe

If it only moves half an inch and then stops, it sounds like the adjustment on the clutch pedal side is wrong, too tight, back it off until loose.
