A414 lift stuck in raised position

I have a A414 (Australian version of the UK B414) tractor. I was using a ripper and it has got stuck in the up position and will not lower. The engine is straining when I now turn it on. What would make the 3PL stay up like that? Your help is appreciated. thanks.

Check the isolator valve (the knob under your right leg on the front of the hydraulic housing). It sometimes gets turned in from rubbing on your leg. If it is in, it will isolate the cylinder from the valve keeping the three point up.
This might not be the problem, but it would be the first thing I checked before digging into the valve.

Had 364 that developed same problem. Lift stuck in the full up position. The 364 appears to have the same hydraulics.
After check the isolator valve mentioned by BCNewf remove the plate on the top of the hydraulic unit(under seat) to inspect valves and linkages. You may have to drain some of the fluid to be able to see.
On ours the draft spool had broken where the linkage connected to it. The draft spool was in the "raise" position and therefore the lift was stuck in the up position. This maybe a common problem.I was able to find the draft spool aftermarket which was much cheaper than IH/Case dealer. Once you remove the cover and drain some to most of the fluid out you should be able to inspect the valve and linkages.
A factory service manual(worth the money) and help from this forum allowed me to replace the draft spool and all the o rings and gaskets successfully. This saved us a considerable amount of money.

good luck
