Farmall A smoke

We just did a complete engine rebuild on a Farmall A. New pistons, rings, sleeves, bearings. Pistons and rings were installed correctly and the head has new valves, guides, valve seals, valve seats and springs. We started the tractor and ran for about 2 hrs and the tractor wont stop smoking. We pulled the head off again and found oil in the intake manifold and the cylinders have oil in them. Dont know what the problem is, can anyone help?

If you put some oil in the cylinders when building, or dipped them, the intake could have oil in it because of splashing of that oil. There could be a problem with overfilled air cleaner, but if checking that is no solution, I would rinse out the manifold and head surfaces and reassemble to run 10 to 15 hours are realy needed. JimN (see post below a ways to get more info)

Some exhaust smoke after a re-build is normal due to all the lubrication that was used in the combustion chamber when it was re-assembled. I would be concerned if it does not clear up after an hour or two of run-time. Did you get all of the piston rings gaps staggered ? was the top end done with new valves and guides ? hopefully the smoke will clear and it will not be an issue.
