Stuck engine Farmall H

I will take all ides on what to put into the motor to help get it unstuck. Have tryed PB Blast and kronl oil (not sure spelling is right)not worked yet.

If you do a search for stuck engine on this site you will find all kinds of tips and recipes. All depends on how big a hurry you are to get er loose.

I would pull the head to see what you are dealing with and go from there.

Soak the pistons with ATF. I would pull the head and pan. If its been stuck for a long time I would pull the engine. I would take a piece of 2 X 2 oak and a big hammer and unbolt one of the rod caps & try & drive the piston out. I did this on an A back in 1975. I don't think it was ever sheltered since it left the IH factory. Hal

Big question is why is it stuck?? If it is from not having the exhaust covered then you stand about a 95% chance you need to open it up and take it apart. If its from sitting then the best thing I have found is ATF. But since you have other stuff in there now ATF will probably not help. Another way to free one up is to pull the head and then add about a tablespoon of gas to each cylinder and light it up. Be very careful if you try that. What that does is heats the block and sleeves but leave the piston cool

I know a guy that rigged up a connector in a spark plug hole to plumb his hydralics on his tractor up to the engine and slowly kept applying pressure until motor gave way. You have to figure out which cylinder has valves closed, and obviosly there is a risk of the wrong pieces giving way lol. worked for him though

The best thing you can do is open it up and see what you got. Once you see what you have, then you can decide what needs to happen. Then you know what you got. Just my $.02

Pull the starter off to be sure it isn't jammed on the ring gear. It's a long shot, but you don't know until you try...

Force on the piston with hydraulic, a greese gun, or many other methods can bend rods, break cranks, and destroy good parts. If tapping it towards moving with the starter by bumping the button every few days, pull it down to the top of the pistons (pull the head) and assess the reality. JimN

Scott, ? Do you want this engine loose in short order??? Then follow my instructions. the engine will be loose over the weekend!!!
1 Remove all tin work, gas tank, intake/exhaust, Valve cover, & Head, Pan. Remove and # Rod Caps.
2 roll tractor outside and double check to make sure there are no combustables near and no tree limbs close.
Get a gallon of gas and 2 or 3 gallons of Diesel. a couple of 2x4 blocks and a good 4 or 5 lb machinist hammer.
3 Make a pot of coffee!
4 Now start ( 1 cylinder @ a time) with the cylinder that has the most Volume! pour in, to almost full with Diesel, add a splash of gas set the fuel mixture on fire.
Pour a cup of coffee and let the mixture burn itself out. Now drive the piston out from the bottom.
5 Repeat with the cylinder that now has the most volume and repeat the #4 step. Note... As the volume decreases and the amt of rust increases you may need to repeat step 4, 2 or 3 or more time to get the engine freed up!
Note 1, the Cup of Coffee step... is very inportant not to rush the burn and heat build up in the cylinder, it is what breaks up the rust that has seized up that engine in the first place
Note 2, Cold Beer, can be substituted for the Coffee. BUT it has to be Super Cold though, Again not to rush the burn! LOL
You get the idea, just be very careful with the gas and diesel & fire. Don't burn your barn or house down.

John has the good idea. I removed the head.
Made a 4x4 to fit in the piston hole. Spray with wd 40. Have a friend bump the starter and you hit the top of the piston with the 4x4 using a sledge hammer moving from piston to piston. Don't be easy. Hit it.
When it starts to move, stop and clean the cyl walls with a flap wheel and go again cleaning as you go. Worked great for me and with new gaskets the tractor runs great.
