Few questions on a IH 544...

I bought this tractor from my father a few years back and I really haven't run it all that much. I've decided to do some fixup work on it as well as get caught up on basic maintenance.

1- Is there a good alternative to the CaseIH SAE 30 Low Ash Engine oil?
2- I'd like to get all the gauges and lights working, but don't know what it's supposed to have and the IH-202 book I bought doesn't have a shot of that. I'm hoping it won't be a huge pain to get the tach hooked back up. Is there an online reference I've not yet found that has info about the dash?
3- This tractor has the rounded fenders, does that make it the utility version or the Ag version? It's got a wide front-end. By the serial # it was built in 1969.
4- Did this thing have a parking brake? I use my FEL or box-blade (when mounted). I've not seen anything that looks like a brake lock in my book.

I'm sure I'll come up with more as I go on.

Thanks
Chad

The one I had the brake lock was just like the H,M,C,200, 230, 460, 560, etc. unless yours is a Utility then it is different.

The serial tag will have an F in front of the 544 if it is a Farmall.

There will be the word "Farmall" above the 544 on the side emblems if it is a Farmall

It will have wheels that look like they slide on the axles if it is a Farmall.

The wide front end will be straight if it is a Farmall. I've seen many 544s and never one with a narrow front end. They may have not come with narrow front ends, and in fact narrow fronts were on their way out by 1969 due to OSHA regulations and the new fad of suing others for your own stupidity.

The Farmall will look tall and lanky. The Utility will look short and squatty. To mount a Farmall, you have to use an intermediate step on the side of the tractor to reach the platform. You can step straight up on to a utility.

Here is a hydro narrow front "Farmall".

If its a Farmall there should be a brake lock just below the hyd. levers. See picture.

This tractor is a farmall model, and a good looking one at that. The park brake is at the bottom of the seat on the right hand side, its the little hook handle you pull it up and at the same time push in the left brake pedal and it should stay down until you push the pedal farther down agian to release it. You wil be pleased with this tractor i think .

My tractor is an I544 and is short and squatty looking. I'll have to see if I can find a similar brake lock as seen in that fine looking picture.

I'll see if I can find some old ads or something for the I544 Utility tractor to see what the dashboard is supposed to look like.

Thanks
