Farmall H Serial Number Codes

I read a thread a couple of days ago about a Farmall H serial number ending in X1E. I think it said the X meant Gasoline, the 1 meant high altitude and the E meant lower gears. I can't find info in my Farmall field guide ... but I just purchased an H, SN 267266 XIA. That makes it a 1947 or 48 depending upon which list you choose to believe. Could anyone help me with what the XIA means in this case please? Thanks a lot. ... Norm 43

plain old X1 indicated a gasoline motor. The suffixes beyond that meant different things. X1A is gasoline, regular (NOT high altitude) pistons, but WITH low-speed gears

Thanks ... I guess low speed gears are good but I live at 4500' and so I will be a little less on power. Good to know information. Thanks again ... Norm43
