300 u fast hitch

Hello all, just got done with putting power steering on my old "58 300u. When finished put new oil back in the resevoir and pulled it outside to see if everything worked ok. The power steering worked fantastic and I was very pleased, so I put on the back blade to clean up a road and at first the fast hitch went up and down fine, but after a half hour or so, it goes up and down very slow and acts like no pressure. Steering still works fine. I see no leaks and the pump is not running any harder than it had. Any ideas of what to check for?

Dave, which power steering unit did you choose to install.
Did you use all factory connections.
Did you install the relief valve which might not be working properly.
Of course you rechecked fluid level.

I changed an old hose on my fast hitch and am having a hard time working the air out.

The priority valve might be diverting the fluid to the PS, and when cold, it has enough pressure/flow for both. when warmed up it may bypass enough fluid at the pump to reduce the amount/pressure to the hitch. Flow rating the pump will pinpoint this for sure, but it is pretty certain if it is a oil temp issue. Unless the tractor has non hytran spec oil in the system. IH or JD oil meets spec, as do many other oils. But an oil that thins down excessively will exagerate the weak pump. The steering system, for safety, will always get first billing on the hydro list. I used everything from another 300u that had the power steering on it, so everything is factory except for a new pressure hose that I replaced. Still baffled

Dave,
I had a sticky controller once on my Case and wiggling the lever and tapping LIGHTLY would free it up.

Use JimN thoughts and do some trouble shooting.
Does it happen cold as well has hot.
What fluid type and level.
Stock hyd pump?
Does rear lift work better in single or double action.
No leaks?
Tap LIGHTLY on controllers, safety and priority valves.
Did you check the hyd screen under the seat in the reservoir (this is a last ditch effort as pulling the reservoir top is a PAIN.)
Pump Noisy?
Does PS shake?
