Can't remember who wanted to slow down his A (?) for rototilling or slow speed cultivating.

Over on the YT Tractor Talk board, someone mentioned he had a dual range 140. I didn't know they existed. I am probably not the only one as no one else mentioned it.

The range shift lever is next the gear shift lever. The gear set is installed in the torque tube.

I bring this subject up because it might be possible to retro fit the A with the 140 parts. Either that or one could look at the parts in a parts book and reverse engineer the gear set.

I figured something like that had to exist.

Only problem with it is due to the lack of a separate PTO driveline, a low range gear between the clutch and transmission will also slow the PTO. Not good for rototilling.
 
Ya, but, it wouldn't be difficult to refit a rototiller with different sprockets.

Anyway, the original thread author was more concerned with slowing down his cultivating speed.

This torque tube gearset seems to replace the Hydro-Creeper. It was probably used for planting or transplanting.

That would be me.......I have never seen, no heard, of a dual range 140. I"ll have to take a peek.
 
Sure seems to me that finding parts from a 140 to slow the tractor down for the rototiller , and then re-tooling the roto tiller to run at the right speed with the reduced pto speed is one heck of a lot of work and money to put a rototiller behind the tractor in question.
 
Wardner: There are 3 reduction transmissions I know of; two are straight hi-lo ahead of the transmission and those slow the PTO by same ratio as driveline. The thrid is a device built in WA state, goes on back in place of PTO. It transmits 540 PTO and one speed to wheels. We covered these about a year ago.
