IH 280 Backhoe D-358 replacement engine question

I have an IH 280 Backhoe with a D-358 inline 6 cyl. w/ powershift trans.

The block is busted, the head removed, and left to sit in the rain! :(

Does anyone have a D-358 for sale?

If not, What engines will work?

The DT-466 seams to be very easy to find.

I'm afraid you're probably limited to the D310 or D358 engines without a lot of machine work and fabrication. At least to my understanding, backhoes aren't like the large-frame tractors, where you can bolt together various pieces of '06, '56, '66, and '86 series tractors to fit practically any engine from a C221 all the way up through a DT466.
 
Where are you located? I have a good 310 block or at least it's not busted. And I have a 358 that I have thought about selling, it's in a cottonpicker

We've got an International 886 that seems to use the D-358 engine also (or so I'm told). Are you suggesting that if I need to replace this engine that I might have OTHER options than the 358 to replace it with? Engine currently runs but leaks water into oil...fearing bad seals on sleeves and then possible need for overhaul. Been wondering if might be easier to replace with rebuilt BUT...if I did that, I'd wonder if it would be better to rebuild with an engine that didn't use wet sleeves??
 
If your block is good, I would purchase a rebuild kit.
In my case the block is busted.
I am currectly looking into using a Cummings 5.9L
It seams IH MAY have used SAE standards on my innovative IH 280A backhoe. In your case you maybe able to get an adapter plate, and use another engine.

If I had a good block, I would just rebuild the D-358.
