??? on a F-14

Hello,

I bought this 1938 F-14 Primarily to Keep It from being Melted Down, The Original Owner had Past on and everything was being Sold or Junked. The Engine Turns but only about 180 degrees then it stops and it sounds like theres a bolt in the Bellhousing Area that has back out and is Bumping Something, but on the Same Token if You Roll it very hard it's a Little Harder to get it Turning the Opposite way as Though the Rings might have Encountered some Rust,Although the Engine only Turns a 1/2 Rotation You can Hear the Impulse in the Mag just before it Stops One Direction. Anyone ever Encounter anything Like this? I'm going to Try and Post a Pic of the Tractor if I can.
Thanks in Advance
Jim

Chances are you're on the right track when you say the rings are hanging up. That little plastic cup over the exhaust ain't been there long, and I'd bet good money it's set out with the exhaust open.

That fact that it moves at all is a very good sign.

If you want it, and can get it for a reasonable price (less than $500, preferably WAY less) then go for it. Parts are commonly available.

As F14 noted, the plastic cup hasn't been on there for very long. YOu probably have/ had water in the top end. I'd pull the valve cover and check for a valve and/or lifter that is stuck. Penetrating oil (my preference is Fluid Film) might get her unstuck. I'd spray the same in the spark plug holes. There aren't any bolts in the bell housing area that I can think of that would cause half rotation of the engine. You might drain the oil as well and see if any water made it into the bottom end.

If it is a valve don't force the engine to turn over, you will bend a pushrod or break a rocker arm. I use some kind of oil in the stem and tap the valve stem with a rubber hammer lightly. Keep squirt ing oil and tapping, It will come loose. also pull the spark plugs and make sure there isn't water in a cyl. Neat ol girl though, Steel, Lift equipment, gas only engine.
