Hello all. I am having a bear of a time putting the hydraulic couplers back together on my 1086. Took them apart to repair the leak. I cannot get the piston assembly to fit/slide past those flat o-rings. Anyone who has worked on them will know what I am talking about. The flat o-ring fits over a regular o-ring. They both fit in a groove in the coupler body.

There must be a trick to this. I have already wrecked a couple of the flat o-rings and want some ideas before I go at it again.

Any ideas greatly appreciated. These are the original, IH type couplers.

Thanks

I know where you are coming from, a real pain. I used to chamfer the end of the coupler a little on a fine grinding stone like on a valve grinding machine where you can control the angle. STP is a good lube to use. Another thing, the conversion kit to ISO style used a regular o-ring if my memory serves me right and it seems to me I substituted that some times in place of that flat ring and of course the other o-ring also.

Finally figured out a way to slide the coupler mechanism thru the body without tearing those cursed flat o-rings apart.

Found a GRAY 3/4 inch drive 1 1/8 socket that matched the internal diameter of the housing exactly. The other end of the socket has a nice taper to it that was smoothed out even more with the grinder. With the socket(end with the taper in first) butted against the coupler and firmly pushing the pair through the body the o-rings stayed put and started over the coupler.

Put it together the rest of the way and no leaks.

Wow, what a PITA!
