Super C Hydro leak

Our super c has developed a hydrolic leak from under the rock shafts, comming from either one of the valves or shafts comming out the front of hydro box that operates the rock shaft. Has anyone tore into one of these? I assume we need to replace a seal, do I need to dissasemble the whole unit or can this be replaced from the front? Thanks John

I have done one and they are not rocket science - however it's not something to tackle without a manual. Also if it was me I would rebuild the whole lot while I was in there as disturbing old seals will likely make them leak and then you'd have to do it all again. The seals in that block are all o-rings and are available as a kit from CaseIH. There are a lot of very fiddly parts in that block and they all need to be put back where they came from. Hope someone else will have a better reply, Sam

I agree with Sam in that they are not that complex to rebuild, as I have rebuilt several. One of the ones I rebuilt had been assembled wrong the last time it was taken apart, so a manual is very helpful. You can just remove the front cylinders and control valve, but you need to be careful not to get any dirt in it when they are removed. If you are going to rebuild the unit, you need to completely disassemble the unit and clean it very meticulously. You need to keep the parts from each hole in the unit layed out like they came out so you can put them back the same way they came out. You then can replace the o-rings and reassemble after coating the parts with hydraulic oil. There are also some external boots that I am sure need replacing to kept the dirt out in the future as yours are probably shot. As Sam said, if you buy the kit it should contain all the o-rings, gaskets, and I think the boots. Good luck. Roger

Here's a couple of pics of mine from my SA, (and I think they're the same units)...

I wouldn't do it without the Blue Ribbon Serviceman's Handbook GSS-1024 from Binderbooks.

I took lots of pics, so ask questions if you're going into it. But be real careful taking it apart! Lots of small pieces.

Thanks to all for taking the time to respond to my post, I figured there were a lot of small parts in there and that I should get the manual but now I KNOW to get one. I will be taking the whole unit off the tractor and rebuild it on the bench. John
