International 444 Brakes Stuck. HELP!!!!!!

I am picking up a Intrnational 444 tractor tommorow. It has been a local tractor its whole life, but has sat outside for the last 5+ years and the brakes are stuck solid! I have a winch on my trailer so loading is not a problem.

Any suggestions on how to un-stick them?
How hard are they to change? Any tips or tricks?

Thanks in advance.

How do you know that it's the brakes?

If it's like most other IH tractors, there is a brake "drum" (actually a cover) on either side of the transmission housing. You should be able to remove the drum and then pull the disks or bands out to allow the tractor to roll free.

However, it could be any number of other issues. There is probably a bunch of water in the rear end that would still be frozen this time of year. It could be stuck in two gears, and winching it may actually break something.

Thanks for the reply. Before they quit using it, they always had problems with the brakes sticking on it, so I assumed that was it. I'm in NC, so not cold enough to be frozen.

Thanks!

I suppose if they were locked on and let sit for a long while. In that case freeing up the linkages underneath should resolve the issue.
With maybe a bit of tapping on the levers that come out of the brake housing.
