Hi, I starter up my tractor today to do a little bit of grading and notice a leak in the front of the tractor. It"s dripping down on the front tires. I can"t see exactly where it"s leaking from, I"m thinking it"s from the front crank seal. Any other thought"s? Any suggestions on reparing with out taking the tractor apart?

You've already identified the most likely source.

If that is indeed the source of the leak (how fast is it leaking?), replacing that seal, unfortunately, means splitting the tractor ahead of the motor, and removing the crank pulley. The seal in question is on the inside of the timing cover. 8^(

When you pull the front pulley make sure that the pulley isnt worn where the seal goes. They do have a speedy sleeve to restore the journal so the seal isnt riding in a grouve so it would leak again.

you also have to pull governor housing to get to it. Its just a matter of a few hours work. Not bad other than pulling pulley

If this is the first time for it leaking I am going to suggest you check to see if the crank case oil is too high. You might have a problem with your hydraulic pump. If the pump leaks the crank case will fill. My SC leaked a little from the front main seal. That got me to looking and I found my hydraulic pump leaked, and was filling the crank. I drained the oil from the crank case, fixed the hydraulic leak in the pump, changed the oil filter and refilled the crank case with the right oil and the front main never leaked again. Ron
