M cornpicker gear

Heard some older guys talk about a slower first gear available for an M, called it a corn picker gear. Wondering if anyone knows where I could find one for my super M. Thanks

It takes three gears and a different countershaft with integal gear. In other words, it is a kit. A listing of the parts you need can be found in the on-line parts book.

Tractors equipped with the "Low-Low" speed attachment will have a "M" suffix letter in the chassis serial number on SM's. Probably the same suffix on M's but I won't guarantee it.

On regular M's the suffix will be X1A or X16A etc there are a bunch of different options that could have been ordered with the low low first. However the most common is the A the A indicates the low gear. The M suffix was used on Super M's And Super H's

I should also add that the M and SM kits may be different. The on-line parts book will clear that up.

You should also use the archives here for more info.

Unless lucky a good set up for a SM will be hard to find. First drive gear for low speed is made on transmission counter shaft. SM counter shaft is a bigger diameter than a M in the middle part and second gear is a different ratio than a M which leads to a different reverse idler gear than M tractors.
