Why do I see so many McCormick-Deering WR-9's with LPG attachments? I know that the factory never built them, but rather it was a field conversion. So, was there an advantage to adding a LPG attachment to a Rice Field Special?
 
LPG was the fuel of choice during that time period in the Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana deltas and Texas regions. It was cheeper than gasoline or diesel. Into the mid to late 1960's a large percentage of the tractors, cotton pickers, and combines in these areas were LPG powered.

From mid fiftys until mid sixtys there was a large flour and feed mill in North Alsbama that ran only LP trucks , they delivered in all surrounding states and burned a lot of fuel. At one time they were buying LP in tank car lots @ 5 cents gallon.
