Who rebuilds governors?

I have an 806 LP that has a tendency to get lazy when under light loads. Running at rated RPM it holds engine speed relatively well but still will slack off when the load lets up. I do custom haying with it and it is murder to rake with. I changed the governor with one off a 460, which helped the laziness to some degree but wouldn"t allow wide open throttle. I found another governor off another 806 with a 301 LP in it. This governor was better than the original but not nearly as good as I would like.

I also have a W-400 that doesn"t want to idle down. Once the throttle has been set past idle, you can forget low rpms for the rest of the day. Engine control is minimal to say the least. I checked to see that the control rod between the carb and the governor has the cog properly located.

I remember an ad in Red Power several years ago advertising an establishment that would rebuild governors. Now I can"t find the ad to save my self. Does anyone know of a place that would know what they were doing when rebuilding either or both of these governors?

Does the governor have a spring it it ? If it does it is week or out of adjustment, it controls rpm.

Go to the tractor pulling section and ask for
Chad he has alot of knoledge on this topic.

Chad will be able to answer all your questions .

Sounds like the governor weight pins are shot and the flywheights are sticking. I do rebuild governors to stock specs or pulling. New weights and pins will help for sure. the 806 governor is what you need to be using, the 460 is pretty much set for lower rpm usage, which can make a 301 underpowered real quick. The 400, may have the pins bad too,,, but the vertical linkage thats located under neath the little vent tube on the top of the governor,, this linkage is adjustable, and can wear out or break. If this linkage is out of adjustment, it will not idle and run erratic with high rpm,,,

the weight pins will stick too and it will pretty much lock up the governor and carb linkage to where ever the throttle postion will be,,,, and that can be wide open!!! Gather up all your governor parts, and take a look inside the governor on the 400,, remove the inspection plate off the side and have a good close look, if thigs are really sloppy and loose it needs repair, but it aint hard. Hope this helps, Chad 574-893-7437 TheTractorShop.com
