Farmall 706 Engine

We have a Farmall 706 (gas 263) which needs some engine work. We also have a line on a gas engine (in good shape) which was in a 715 combine (gas 301). The question is will this engine fit in the 706 without modification? Another question is, are there any parts on these engines which are interchangeable, like head, crank, manifold, carburetor, & etc.? Thanks for your help.

Same block, different guts. You"ll have to use front cover from tractor engine on 301. May have to use tractor front pulley, and I cannot remeber which direction carb points on the combine, so tractor carb may be needed, but I dont think so. Other than that, its a direct swap.

Carb inlet faces rearward on combine engine .Also you will change the oil pan, front cover and rear engine plate. On the rear plate you will need bolts and nuts instead of stud bolts in a couple places.Had to change the throttle bracket on the govenour houseing. One other thing is the exhaust manifold outlet it was horizonal on my combine engine will propably need to use your tractor manifolds.

I hate to offer unsolicited advice (so don't cuss me too much) but for my 2 cents it always makes more sense to me to fix what you got. With all the time and effort and expense to swap engines and then it need a rebuild in a couple years doesn't seem worthwhile. Who knows what shape the valves, pistons, rings, and cylinders are in? Overhaul what you got, even if you have to take the head and block to a shop, you are good to go for another 40 years.
