H Farmall Hydrualics

Yessir it possible to upgrade your H to two-way hyd. My son and I have a 1941 M that we upgraded to 6 valve 2 way live hyd. It came with char-lyn power steering. Armand

if you dont need the hydraulics "live" its pretty easy. pick up a spool valve with howevermany outlets you need. from the belly pump, run one of the front pressure outlets to the "in" of the spool valve. run a return line from the out of the spool valve to the hydraulic drain on the bottom of the belly pump. i use a pipe tee and hook the center of the tee to the drain hole, one side of the tee to the return, and a pipe plug in the other, that way you can remove the pipe plug to drain fluid out. to use, pull back on the hydraulic actuator rod and wire it to the full open position. now you will have two way hydraulics from the spool valve.

IH also made a factory "remote valve" that would make it 2 way. Those have 2 rods that look like the one you have now. One locks the belly pump on, and the other rod controls the valve.

here is a picture of one of my m's, this one has a char-lynn two way conversion on it. the control rod for the belly pump has a short piece of rod welded to it positioned so you can lock the belly pump on, its about 4 to 6 inches below the original catch on the control rod. there is a second rod that mounts above it and attached to the light bar to activate the remote valve. (thats a dc welder running off the belt pulley)the cable that is running between the control rods is for the m+w 9 speed.

The Factory IH "christmas tree" valve would certainly be correct, but if you're just going for functionality, any old open-center hydraulic remote valve will work. You'll spend a lot of time looking for, and a lot of money on, a genuine christmas tree valve these days.

Get one with NPT (national pipe thread) ports on it. These are the most common and easiest to get fittings and hoses for.

surpluscenter dot com usually has decent deals on hydraulic valves.
