distributor guru's

I bought a IH distributor with the symbol "AF2" on the side meaning the full advance would be 21 degress at 2000 rpm, that I do know. What I don't know is what it was intended for since it came off of a Super M. The Super M came with the symbol "J" or "AB" distributors depending on the pistons installed. Thanks for any and all input.

Charles: I believe you will find you bought an "A" code distributor with 40 degrees advance - typical to an H or M. The "F2" is not totally understood, but believed to be a date code/shift code, or something similar. I am not 100% certain about this...... Jim Becker may know more about the F2 code.

Thanks Mike,
Back in July 07, Red Power had a pretty good write up on the IH distributors including all the code specs. Guess who wrote it, Jim Becker.
If anyone could tell me, it would be him for sure. Just don't have his email.
Thanks,
Charles

A code dist. F month 2 year. First letter indicates the total advance dist. came with. Can"t always count on the original advance being inside though.

Way back in July of '07? I still haven't bolted that distributor back on the tractor. It least I put it back together.

Red Mist is reading the code the same way I do, symbol A distributor with a date code of F2. I haven't seen a document that explains the date codes, but A through L for a month followed by the last digit of the year seems to track with the codes I have looked at.

An A symbol is 40 degrees at 1400 rpm. You can easily open it up to confirm the 40 degree max. I don't have the descriptions of the various springs, but the "A" spring has 6 1/2 coils and is relatively light wire.

Charles, for ideal settings lots of things need considered, engine setup, fuel, RPM range and use of tractor are some. I'm no expert that can tell you whats best for your case. Sorry Dave
