F14 starting problem

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me find the problem. I finally did.

My curiosity got the better of me, and since I knew it was getting plenty of fuel, and I knew the timing was right, it only left a spark problem. The mag throws out a nice hot spark, but I just couldn't resist opening it up and checking it out.

What I found:

I had never messed with an impulse before so I decided to pull the cover off and see what was there. I discovered the impulse has 2 spots on it for the pawl to catch on. On the back side of the impulse there are 2 pieces that are supposed to release the pawl to make it go down and catch? That's what it looks like anyway. Well, one of those pieces doesn't have the little tab that sticks out to trip the pawl (looks like the tab is broken off). I concluded that the impulse only catches 1/2 as many times as it is supposed too.

For those who are knowledgable about them does that sound right?

Well I have not had one with a broken weight or pawl. I did have to replace the whole impulse assembly on the F-4 mag on my F-12. This was because the two pins carring the weights on the disc were so badly worn that one weight would actually fall out of line every so often and lock in place. Than to unlock it Id have to spin it backwards. But what you are saying makes sense to me, as each weight should have a tab to trip the impulse. So the impulse should be tripped twice for every revolution of the mag drive.
