504 odd backfire

I have a International 504 gas tractor. When I plow or brush hog for an entire afternoon it will run good all day except for once in a great while it will miss fire. I plowed for four hours last fall and in that four hours it miss fired a few times and backfired twice. I did give it a good tune up last summer before plowing but it still will do this once in awhile, just not real often. Any ideas? Seems odd that it will not do it all the time.
Thank You very much.

Have you checked the ing. timing ??? also check the mechanical advance in the dist for a broken spring or to much slop in the flyweights . Next if you are not running 93 octane gas in it as it is one of them engines that needs the better gas s it was built when the gas was better and a higher grade then today . 87 octane burns way to hot for a working tractor . Run the correct heat range plug. use only low ash oil .
