Hello everyone i'm new to the IH board on here and was curious on how much primer and paint it takes to paint a M...planned on 3 coats of paint? Just wanted to be close..the wife is not very happy w/me spending the money on it in the first place ha ha thank you everyone

for a single stage urethane, using an hvlp spray gun, figure anywhere from 5 to 6 quarts of paint. about the same in primer.

A lot depends on whether you remove all the parts and paint them separately. I used 5 quarts on a C doing it that way, about 6 on a Super H. There is a lot of wasted paint doing them separately, but you get a better job. Not sure a gallon will do an M even with all parts intact. A gallon of epoxy primer, using 2 coats will probably cover it. PPG's version is mixed 1:1 with catalyst, thus one gallon = 2, so you will probably have some left over. I don't think it comes in quarts. You will probably want surfacer over the epoxy on the sheet metal.

How do you level out the highs and lows, dents and bumps on the sheet metal without primer?
