have a 1950 H a birthday gift from my wife it starts good when it is cold and if you chock it just a little it will start when it is hot but some times will not start at all till it sets for a while why any ideas

yes most of the time closing and opening the chock quick it will start if the chock is closed to long it will not start it is a good running tractor just seams to start hard when it has been run and warmed up
a friend has a 9n you need to chock when cold it starts good when warm and has been running

Didn't know what chock was for a minute there, change it to choke. My dad had an H that I drove from the time I was 12 until I was about 20. Starter would barely turn the engine over when hot, it would when cold. Wasn't much of a concern because it had a mag, we would just crank start it. If that is the problem, check out the starter. Otherwise--An H needs very little choke when cold, none when hot except occasionally. It sounds to be like you are flooding it. Also, if your coil is borderline (if there is such a coil), when hot the tractor won't start. This is particularly true if the engine dies, then won't start. The coil has to cool off.
