Hi all- I am having trouble getting the fan belt on my I-4 tractor. The radiator and fan are still on. I have read the manual and have taken out the set screw attached to the pulley flange. I believe the pulley should then be able to turn in or out to set the tension (and provide a little room to get the belt ovet the bottom pulley). Anyone have any advice? It seems awfully tight in trying to coarse the belt onton the bottom pulley. THanks, MIke M

Wire brush what threads you can on the pulley.
Spray Penetrating oil (not WD40) in and on.
Let soak. Heat the metal where the setscrew was, and opposite, with a propane torch (not terrible hot, just heated up well without burning much paint. Use a brass drift (punch) or mild steel rod to tap the flange CCW from the front of tractor. tap both ways and do not beat it. It will break if abused. It will move (eventually) then clean the threads and use a coating of anti sieze compound on it befor tightening it back up. Leave the belt with at least an inch of push pull play in it. It is not to be tight like a smaller belt. JimN

:You need to pay attention to Jim's comment...USE BRASS...DO NOT USE STEEL AS A PUNCH...DO NOT HAMMER IT WILL ALL YOUR STRENGTH...AS HE SAID...DO NOT ABUSE...IT WILL BREAK AND THEN YOU WILL BE REPLACING IT...

BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT---SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS.
