(quoted from post at 14:47:28 02/13/09) Hello folks, the lawnmower wore out. Ran across a little '66 cub with a wodds 42c mower deck. Tractor runs good, no smoke, and every thing works good.
The final bolts that hold up the mower deck are shot and so are the threads in the final drive housing. I ran a tap into the housing but the threads a too worn.
My question is how bad a job is it to remove the right final drive housing? Would like to get it to my local machine shop.
[b:77cc9398f1][i:77cc9398f1]I looked in that farmall cub site and to be honest I found no useful info[/i:77cc9398f1][/b:77cc9398f1].
Nothing useful :?: :?:   :!:
Ok, what did you do :?: Did you by any chance say type into the search box, Helicoil size for Implement Pad threads, or gee... mounting pad helicoils :?: oh maybe helicoil itself :?: .... thread inserts or any of a thousand other permutations  :!:
If you conduct a simple search.. you would have found that there is even a thread in the
How To Forums Cub Book of Knowledge that will list a whole bunch of How Do I Fix my Cub type threads. There must be hundreds of threads and posts on Helicoil fixes both on and off of the tractor, removal and remounting of finals and all other types of information. And this is not useful :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
Of course, one would actually have to use the search feature, or I guess one could always post a question and wait for someone to tell them the answer instead of looking for it.
For any site to be useful the searchee must actually look for an answer otherwise no useful information will be found.
Running a tap into the pad holes, without knowing the type of bolt that needs to be there.. in this case a 5/8"-11NC tapered implement bolt would not be the route I would take. I would think most people would actually look up the information in a
Owner's Manual, or in a
Parts Catalog, and failing that maybe actually look in a
Service Manual. And the links to the
Manual Server are right there.. in the header  :?
Also, it is rather easy to find information on Helicoils on this site as well. I simply typed into the search box - Helicoil Jig.. and presto.. BusDriver's jig post popped right up.. :!:
Re: Drilling for Helicoils.
A little bit of due diligence will provide an abundant fount of information on these Cubs.
Make sure you also get a bottoming tap. You surely do not want to drill through the casting, cause then you will really need to get a new one, as they are not easily fixable. Welding cast is not for the faint of heart :!
