Were any of the 40-80 hp diesels wet sleeve? Looks like rebuilding one of those is a lot easier than the dry sleeve ones... Got a couple of rebuildable diesels in the area and trying to gauge the level of difficulty to tackle one of these as a first time rebuild.

All the Neuss built 3, 4 and 6 cylinder diesels are wet-sleeved. Also known as "German diesels".

How do I find out which models contain the German diesels. Is there a good book or a web resource that outlines models with this level of detail?

Am I too worried about wet vs. dry on a rebuild? I read some posts about how hard it is to get the dry sleeves in correctly vs. making sure a seal is installed correctly on a wet sleeve. Is this a significant factor in a rebuild?

Both types of sleeves have their pitfalls. Neither is really worse than the other (I've done both) although particular engines also have their own foibles. Just go carefully, both are an awful lot easier than a parent bore engine (pistons run in the block). Sam
