smta front end

Hey guys we are trying to use a smta front end on our super m but our front steering shaft is now two short about 2inches . I thought the ta's were longer in the transmission area does the front steering box set out farther ? This is an ffa project and the front end was donated for this basket case tractor Thank you Jerry

The bolster (front end) is farther forward. The hood will not fit either. A pipe and (quality weld can extend the shaft, but the hood must come from a MD, SMD SMTA. The MD hood is (I believe the correct length but the hole is wrong RF instead of left center). An appropriate fan extension. or mods to the shroud might work. I have not thought about it, but drilling new frame rail holes might work. (be careful with this last answer, it might cause other drastic issues to become horrible.) JimN

Yes, you are correct, Jim.

There is alot more info just posted today on the second page of the link below. If link doesn't get you all the way there, goto "need some schooling on a SMTA" thread.
