I borrowed a Leinback post hole auger to use on my H and it appears that my 3 pt does not have enough upward travel to use. Would I need to get a subcompact size auger to use with my H? I have about 60 posts to put in and don't want to dig by hand. Thaks for any help.

i ran in to a similiar problem with my auger on the m 3 point. didnt seem to have enough travel. what i did was move the holes for the top link mount further up the boom, about 6-8 inches and that gave more than enough up and down travel on the auger.

Even with the Hoop adjusted to the last hole and the auger sitting on the ground I am still over 12 in from the hoop with the 3 pt all the way up.

I have a Saginaw hitch, use a tsc auger, never have a problem. I think you should look at it again.

I don't know what brand my 3pt is but it is a single cylinder type, is the TSC Auger full size or compact?

are the upright links (turnbuckles) on the three point all the way out or in? they should be closed up to get the hitch up higher.

is your 3 point a cat 1? look at the left colums under research and info down to 3 point specs, it will give the pin sizes for the hitch. the auger i have on my m had a 22 inch bit, picked it up at an auction cheap. i had to weld some new mounts on the end of the boom for the top link, the way they were set up with the top link holes, i could not get enough travel on the auger, so i welded a new mount up the boom a little. could be you are running in to the same problem. witha 12 inch bit, i can get 48 inches deep with my auger.

It is a cat 1, the bit is about 48in. Any suggestions on a make of auger that might work. I have seen photo's of H's with the same hitch as mine, so I don't think it is a homemade one.

If you only have 60holes to do why not just wait till you get to the job and put the auger on then and let it drag from hole to hole and remove it when done. to set just back past the spot till the tip is where you want the hole then drive ahead to straighten turn on and dig.
