HOW MUCH TO MILL OFF ON SM DISC BRAKE HOUSINGS?

Howdy, boys:
I redid my disc brakes on the ol' SM because they were occasionally sticking. Found corroded balls, lots of rust and some broken springs. Pads/discs themselves are nearly new. Cleaned, bead-blasted and replaced parts as needed. Adjusted links to the pedals per the blue ribbon manual.
Now, the pedals will depress on the verge of "too far"; maybe 4 inches before they truly actuate the brakes. I think it is time to mill the housings. What I would like to know is a ball-park figure to give the machine shop as far as how much to mill off the edges. .020"? .030"? How much? Those with experience with regard to this, please feel free to share your knowledge.
As always, thanks to all respondents in advance.....

What i do is put all the pieces and parts into the brake housing and lay a stright edge across the housing and see what ya go BUT keep in mind here that just how much thicker are new disc's ??? and leave room for the day that ya have to put new in and give yourself room I usualy try .125 for clearance .

Had the same problem with my 54 SH. Everything new inside, new discs also. We took off .075 and they worked as new.
You can scuff up those discs with a wood rasp, kinda like knurling a piston.

I took two really nasty looking brake drums to work and turned them. I estimated that the distance from the top and to the bottom must have been 2 and a quarter inches. I did not put them on a tractor yet to see how they work. I tried to remove the same amount of stock from both surfaces.
