Cub PTO Pulley/Side Mower

I have a "55 Cub. It has a Fast Hitch. The Cub came with a side mower, however, the pulley was shot. I bought a new pulley from IH. The new pulley was longer than the old 2 piece pulley. After installing the new pulley I had to remove the Fasthitch because it interfered with the pulley. This also required me to scrounge around and find a mower drive shaft and mount which was slightly longer than my original one. I am sure this is all clear as mud. I need a new "close clearance" pulley so I can mount mower drive and still have the Fasthitch on the tractor. Anyone know what I am talking about?? The pulley that was bad was a two piece one.

You need to go to cub.com there is alot of info there as well as parts to be had. There is one company that is big and only sells cub parts as well as what your looking for.

I wish i could remember the name but there on the web site.

The link that James typed didn't show up on the "Modern View". The site he is referring to is [b:6d799f3676]Farmallcub.com[/b:6d799f3676], and the company is [b:6d799f3676]TMTractor[/b:6d799f3676]. They specialize in new Cub parts.
The old two piece pulley you had was not the correct one to begin with. The original ones were one piece like the one you got new from IH. I am thinking you have a mixture of Cub and Lowboy mower parts together, that is why things are now lining up. Pose the same question over at the other forum and I'm sure the guys will get you straightened out.
Good Luck.

"Thanks" that was the website and company.
They have alot of photos of all the attachments and there parts for the cub tractors on this website.

I'm guessing you're talking about some sort of Cub sickle bar mower. The correct PTO pulley for sickle bar mowers for the Cub and the LowBoy was a single-piece casting, secured by a pinch bolt IIRC. The two-piece pulleys I'm familiar with came with the Woods belly mowers; they were a lot larger in diameter than the sickle bar mower pulley, and the center insert with two cap screws was used to both install and remove the pulley.

But I'm not familiar with Cubs with the Fast Hitch.

First, yes you were quite clear, I got it immediately and I think so did Raymond. By the way he gave you good advice. If you check my webpage button, you will end up at my manual server. You will find the information you need in the Cub-22 Owner's Manual. Also, if you look under the Cub Parts Catalogs you will see a link for the MR-5. This has the parts diagrams for both the Cub-22 and the L-22 which is for the Lo-Boy Cub.. not to be confused with the Numbered Series Lo-boys...

If you compare the parts and the part numbers that you have with the ones in the MR-5, you will be able to determine which are for the standard F-Cub and which are for the Lo-Boy.

Most of those mowers have a 4 1/2" pulley. If you have fast hitch you need a 4" pulley to clear the hitch. The factory pulleys were secured with a pinch bolt and now cost $100 new. Some guys use a 2 piece pulley but you have to use a double groove to get it to line up.

OK. this is what I have found. The old wornout pulley was a 4" diam, 457193 R2, which is a Low Boy pulley [with another pulley bolted to it (FB 40)]. When I bought a new pulley IH sold me a 4.5" diam, 451356 R2, which is made for a 1947-1955 Cub. That pulley is 2.5" wide x 4.5" diam and when you put it on it interferes with the Fasthitch. The old 4" diam was only 1.75" wide.
So now I have a Lo-Boy mounting for the drive and no Fasthitch. Before I spend $120 on another pulley I want to make sure it is right. Does anyone have the measurements for a 457291 R1 pulley? Is it 4" diameter?
That is the pulley shown for a 1955 Cub and newer in the Cub 22 Mower parts list. My Cub is a serial No. 187521J which puts in the the first half of 1955.
Somehow I have both a Cub and Cub Lo-Boy mounting assembly.

Thanks for the help. Your website is great. I could not find my Cub-22 parts catalog and the one you posted did the trick. I had a 4" diam Cub Lo-boy pulley originally, it was shot and IH sold me a 4.5" Cub 1947-55 pulley. I guess that is why the Fasthitch interferes. Also this pulley is 2.5" wide as opposed to the 1.75" Lo-Boy. It sticks out too far and cannot be reversed so that the belt groove in close to the tractor. I believe I need a 4" pulley. Do you know if the 457 193 R1 listed for the 1955 and up tractor is a 4"diam? width? I have an early 1955 Cub serial 187521J Cub

Nope, I cannot tell you for sure as all I have is are Cub-22 mowers. But I am sure that a number of the folks over at farmallcub.com can answer that, in fact I know for sure that they can. It sounds though like you need the lo-boy pulley to work with your fast hitch. There is a work around for it, but I can't remember where.   Saw it last night as I was uploading manuals and such..

Oh, ifn you emailed Ralph at Ralph's Cubs he could tell you for sure and he may even have a few on hand.
