Farmall H trans deck removal. 1948 H

Hello,my deck is not moving.I have all the bolts out, just one snapped flush with the deck in the very back center behind the seat. The belt pulley gear box was also taken off.The one bolt on each side where My brake band cover that is held onto the top deck is also removed.I have tapped it with a hammer. Any more ideas??? thanks john

They can be stuck on there pretty well after 60 years. I'm a little hesitant to recommend hitting it harder as you're liable to knock a piece off. Maybe a big deadblow hammer would help prevent that?

Yeah, i hit it with a block of wood and a hammer, though just hard enough.I dont want to brake anything.I was just wondering if there is anything else that i may have missed?? It looks like it may have been off at one point in its life.I have owned it for about 10 years now.I noticed two ball bearings missing behind one of the brake hub when i went to put in brake bans and new seals.Just would prefer to replace the bearing if i can. thanks john

It takes a lot of force with a dead blow hammer, try and keep to the narrow edges with your hammer. Here is my first one I did on my 43 H.
Had a heck of a time getting it loose.

Deck Removal

I just started my 50H deck last nite and it came loose very easy.

There are three dowel pins lining up the deck to the case. They may be stuck. Two are on the right and left between the axle housings and brake drums. The other is on the right side of the belt pulley gearbox opening. The deck has to come up fairly straight. I had too use sheet metal shims - didn't want to mar the gasket surface - to jack the deck from the broken bolt that had cemented itself in place from 55+ years of dust and rainwater.

Theman, i had my deck up about 1 inch at at the belt pulley gear box end.The one bolt that is boken flush is at the rear of the tractor in the very center.I can get just a very small narrow air gap in the back by the broken bolt. The broken bolt is what is holding her up.It has a broken drill bit in it now(1/16")What do you mean by jacking up and exactly what point is safe to jack.I tried heating and hammering by the broken bolt.I really would like to remove the deck if possible. thanks john

Can you lower the front and just leave about a quarter inch spacer or something to hold it up a little. Then put a little pressure from below, like a bottle jack and length of 4X4. With pressure on it, jolt it a little with the deadblow hammer. If you can ever get an old screw driver or two driven in. If you are careful you should not hurt the surface. Then progress up to a cold chisel. Sounds like that one bolt may be swelled up a little. Patience and working it a little at a time. May have to take it up, little penetrating oil around the troublesome bolt, then take it back down. back and forth.

Good luck,, Gene

John,
My broken bolt was holding the back end of the deck down. By placing spacers in the gaps about where the brake pinion shafts were and tightening the bolts at the front, I could pry the back end of the deck up a little at a time. Actually, there were two broken bolts on my '51 H. One pulled through, the other snapped off - it was that tight - about 3/8" above the surface of the case. I ended up having to drill that bolt out of the deck it was in there so tight. A punch just wouldn't budge it.
