more "n likely the internal threads are wore out, which is why the pipe was welded in. if you dont want to spring for a new manifold and pipe, and the old manifold is still good. i"d clean up the welds with a die grinder, maybe puddle a little more weld on, then grind it all smooth and call er a day. prolly a lil time in the blast cabinet and squirt of paint would purdy er up a little. (okay, okay, i"ll give ya hundert and fity for the h, in small unmarked bills!!!!)

How much is a new manifold? With a little work the weld could be ground to look good after high temp paint is applied. If the functionality of the manifold is not compromised, I would use it after a little wire brushing or sand blasting and paint.

Heck I wouldn't even worry about the aesthetics. It's going to be under the hood where nobody will see it unless they look real close.

If the pipe is not paper thin (common problem), then run with it. You'll be $200 poorer to replace the manifold and pipe with new.

I'd fix it. Do it right and you'll never have to worry about it again. The manifold can be rethreaded, and a new pipe might sit a little lower in the manifold, but you'll never know it. HINT, you will want to bolt the manifold to the engine before attempting to rethread it. You'll never be able to hold it still otherwise.

Randy, it is totally up to you, but If it was me I would probably grind or torch enough of the weld to be able to remove the pipe, remove pipe, grind rest of weld away, chase threads with 2" pipe tap, and install a new pipe.

Since threads look fairly good on pipe I would quess that threads in manifold were stripped is reason it is welded. Before you can rethread you have to have something to thread into so I would not trouble trouble untill trouble troubled me.

With all the time and effort you've put into the rest of the project,I don't know if you could sleep at nite without fixing it.
With that said,I have a 2" pipe tap you can borrow.
Come an get it,or I can mail it to ya,I'm about 90 miles west of Lincoln. John.
