sicklebar mower identification

Hello everybody. I'm a newbie here.I've posted only a couple of times in the past, but, it's been a long time. I need some help identifying the model number on a IH sickle bar mower. It's fast hitch, 7 foot cutter bar, belt drive. No trailing wheel, fully fast hitch mount. And where can I get parts for it? One of the pulleys is broken. It came with my 560 when I bought it. I don't know if it was actually for the 560, but, it looks like the right size. Anybody have much luck with these mowers? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Could be a C-24 pitman mower. Also could be a #100 or #120 balanced head mower.CaseIH has some parts for them yet.All 3 of them are good mowers, but I really like the balanced head mowers.

Here's a post on IH model numbers of mowers, I have posted pictures of the balanced-head mowers that I own:

I have several owner's manuals, parts manuals, and the IH Blue Ribbon Service Manual for balanced-head mowers that I'm happy to copy and share for the cost of postage.

smgussey AT yahoo DOT com if you can't get my address from the forum software...

Is there any specific way to tell what it is? some kinda marking or shape of the mower? Is there a list of some sort somewhere that lists all the model numbers and describes them?

560guy: First off if this mower is balance head, the actual mowing mechanism is the same on all. Doesn't matter whether it be trailer, 3 point, 2 point. I expect most of the actual driveline is same on the side mount model.

These fast hitch and 3 point hitch mowers were no longer tractor specific, other than small-large fork or Cat I or II. Other words there is no such thing as a 560 mower. Probably a large fork mower that will work on every large fork fast hitch tractor IH built, except one point.

For parts you're probably going to have to hit the scrap yards. My uncle had to search far and wide, and ended up driving quite a ways, to find a good used wobble box for one.

Depends on the parts you`re looking for. I found some parts for my #100 were still available at the dealer and some at the parts depot(a business that buys dealers` old inventory).

Parts for any of the wobble box/balanced-head mowers are readily available. However, a rebuilt wobble box can run up to $1200 or more, depending on how bad your exchange unit is.

If anyone is having trouble finding parts, let me know. I have a couple of implement dealers that know these mowers well and can get you parts.

There is a 1/2 inch thick shim welded on the bottome side of each prong. I assume this was done to make it fit the large fast hitch, so am i correct in believing that it originally supposed to fit the smaller fast hitches. How much difference in sizes is there between the small and large fast hitches? Does this help any in trying to identify this machine? Just exactly how many fast hitch sickle mower models were there?

560guy, All the fast hitch mowers came with the small prongs. To use the mowers on the large FH tractors (240,300,400,330,350 and up) required the use of a 1/2" filler plate on each prong.Alot of farmers tack welded them to the prong so they didn`t get lost. The mowers were definitely not made that there were small point mowers and large point mowers.Small points are 2 1/2" high and large points are 3" high. This doesn`t give us any more clue to what model you have. First off, have we determined if it`s a pitman or balanced head yet ?Like in previous posts there were C-24,C-28,#100 and#1200 possibly more.

560guy: Just two sizes of forks and that 1/2" welded on is the difference.

There were numerous fast hitch nowers, most of them pitman drive. I think there was only two balanced head models, might only be one. Not sure the last balanced head mower was available in fast hitch.

Hugh, According to CaseIH online parts book the later model 1200 balanced head was available either 2 or 3 pt. so there were 2 balanced head mowers w/FH.Going thru all my literature, I am only coming up with 2 FH pitman mowers also. The C-24 and U-F28 which in late 50`s turned into the #24 and #28.The #24 was the mower for the Farmalls and the #28 was for the Internationals(utilities) .#28 also came as 3 pt. for B-275,B414 etc.

This is the mower that came with my MTA. The tag is hard to read, but says U-F28. Hope this helps.

I"ve got pictures of this machine on my computer. How do I get them posted here? I think it"ll be easier if i can get photos of it posted on here.

This is a balanced head mower. It"s gonna be awhile before i can get pictures on here, having technical difficulties with the computer. How many fast hitch balanced head mowers were there? It looks a lot like steven f/AZ"s 120 semi mount only mine is fast hitch. was the 120 available in fast hitch as well? or would that make this a 100? Thanks to all for the help and advice. It is greatly appreciated.

From your original post , you said you had a fully mounted fast hitch (no tail wheel)mower. So it can`t be a 120 like steven f/AZ`s because 120`s were all semi mount. For a fully mounted fast hitch balanced mower, your options are #100 0r #1200.

Thanks Mark. Do you know of a place that would have parts for this? I need the pulley right behind the pto drive shaft, the belt, and possibly the small idler pulley. Thanks for the help and advice. It sure is appreciated.

I did some checking and it looks like the belt(562088R1) and drive pulley (456567R3)are still available at CaseIH.Hope you`re sitting down--49.32 for the belt and 190.36 for the drive pulley. It doesn`t look like the idler is available, but go out to any salvage yard and find around a 3" diameter idler and you`ll be in business. By the way, these part #`s are for Model 100 only. The Model 1200 shows the belt and drive pulley available, too, but different part numbers.I`m guessing you got a 100, just because there were alot more of them built,I suspect.Wish I could tell you a salvage yard, but not much around here with balanced mowers.Maybe steven f/AZ can help with used parts ???
