Farmall A front engine seal replacement.

I need to replace the front engine seal on my Farmall A. I am very mechanical but I never done this on a tractor and I know nothing about takeing apart the govorner and putting it back together correctly. I know how much work is involved. Should I even bother trying this myself? Is there anyone in N.E. Ohio that would be will to come and help?

The worst part of this job will be getting the front crank pulley off. There is not anything real complicated about removing the governer, The key is that the punch mark on the governer aligns with the punch mark on the camshaft when you reassemble it. whe.You will need large bearing seperator to put on the back side of the crank pulley and also a large puller and a good impact wrench.and reinstallation of the pulley is not much fun either, You will need to heat it considerably in order to get it back on.

You might want to take a look at the rest of the engine while your at it. If the seal is gone, I would look at the bearing inside etc, while you have it apart. Don"t know if you feel like going that far, or spending that much, but may save you lots in the end.

That old seal may have worn a groove into the hub
on your pulley. If it has a speedi-sleeve will cover the worn surface. Napa or Case/IH should have a kit. Hal

Look at the photos I posted usein' a Portapower to pull it or that might have been a Porta Potty...gettin' too old and been too cold too long to know the difference anymore.I thought My portapower idea was a good one, thought the photos were good.....Guess not....BUTT it worked.
